Banding sometimes occurs with digital print projects. Banding appears as horizontal lines or “bands” of discoloration. It tends to happen with large areas of color, especially lighter colors or areas with a gradation.
Although banding is difficult to get rid of altogether, there are a few things you can do to reduce the chances and severity of banding:
- Avoid designing digital pieces with large areas of light pastel colors
- Avoid gradients, or consider using offset printing for pieces with gradients
- Voice your concern about banding. Some banding can be avoided simply by having your vendor recalibrate or clean the wires on their machine.
